I have now read both the prequel and this first installment of the Chronicles of Calibran and I have enjoyed both stories. I like the world of Calibran. It's obvious that a lot of thought has gone into crafting it. The stories themselves are very reminiscent of the original Dragonlance Chronicles; at least to me. The intent of the stories is to capture the feel of the narrative of a tabletop RPG campaign and I think these stories do that very well.The only 2 pieces of criticism that I could level at these stories are that a.) the installments are short, and that seems to be a thing with modern ebooks (as this story seems to be setting the stage for a broader narrative later), and b.) like many, many early efforts by writers or groups of writers, these stories feel just a tad bit underdone. That is to say, most early works by authors, when compared to their own later works, seem less developed. This is even true of some of my most favorite authors.
That said, I am very much looking forward to reading the subsequent stories and discovering how the narrative unfolds and deepens. And I am very much looking forward to further installments from Anthony Russo.

It was a very interesting book, It remind me a little of the Lord of the Rings but with a more deep tone. In the world of Calibran there are many species, races as different as the sun and the moon. In this book a medieval world is fairly portrayed where the prejudices and ancestral laws are quite settled. I like that this book tries to show both the good and the bad of this world and at the same time reflects the beginning of a story that probably ends with an epic struggle between good and evil.
Dragon King was a pleasure to read. It’s a fantasy-thriller and the first installment of a series. Episode one was all about getting to know the characters, who are they, what are the roles within their respective groups. The Reader gets to know the factions and the various groups of peoples. This is the way the author lays out the premise (s) of the book and therefore the series. (In other words,) The author did a great job using Episode One to let the reader understand his story and the structure of the storyline so that as we the reader move forward each episode will be seamless. It was a good read but a tad too short. Just as I had settled in and felt comfortable that I was keeping up, the book ended. (Note I received this book in exchange for an honest review) –Tex. I simply cannot get enough of Calibran. The immense, vicious and fantastical world is extraordinarily fascinating that has just begun.
Like its previous stories, filled with races that we look for in an epic fantasy with more uncommon, interesting ones, The Dragon King is a satisfying epic tale that will leave you craving for more of this vast and magical world.
I received this book in exchange for an honest review. I loved this short story. For this story to be so short, so many things happened. I was hooked from the first page. Anthony Russo and Alberto Bieri did an amazing job of creating a fantasy world. The world building was spectacular. I felt like I was amid the world the authors described. The character growth was amazing, and I felt as if I knew the characters personally. I'm eagerly waiting for more from these two authors.
